Description
Moody Yachts, based in the UK since 1827, really need no introduction from me. Traditionally known for their aft-cockpit classic layouts they began designing the Eclipse range of deck saloon cruising yachts in the late 1980's and now the majority of Moody's current models are that style.
The Moody Eclipse 43 is the largest of that generation, a true offshore sailing cruiser with the added benefit of an interior helm and powerful engine to allow the benefits of motor-sailing without having to compromise on performance.
To be honest, this boat seems to have less compromises than many similar sized cruisers. The cockpit, although not huge, is clear and uncluttered, the mainsheet traveller is forward and all control lines lead in tidily to a single recently fitted electric winch on the coachroof making short handed sailing safe and straightforward. She is set up so that winch can take the effort out of lots of jobs, including hoisting the tender.
Going below the wide companionway with shallow steps mean moving around is easy and she opens up into a lovely, light, open saloon area with comfortable seating, a large dining table and lots of usable storage including a purpose built tool box in the sole. Going aft leads to a good sized double cabin with a vanity basin and the expected (for Moodys) large opening panel for engine access.
Another easy step down forwards and you have a well equipped galley, twin cabin and day heads and forward again is the ensuite master cabin with an island berth.
She presents well, fresh and dry and clean throughout and appears to have been well maintained and cared for by experience owners
Only 38 were produced making this lovely example a bit of a rarity - viewing is welcomed!
